Public opinion to be sought regarding electricity tariff increase

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Public Utilities Commission states that it is preparing to hold a public consultation regarding the increase in electricity tariffs as soon as the Government's policy is informed.

Its Chairman, Janaka Ratnayake stated that the PUCSL is the final authority on the electricity tariff increase.

He said that the PUCSL will arrive at its decision after CEB recommendations for the tariff increase, after which the policy of the Government will be sought.

Thereafter, the PUCSL will also obtain Cabinet approval, and will increase the tariff according to the sectors and consumption of electricity. 

The public consultation will be held to obtain people's ideas and suggestions regarding the tariff increase, Rathnayake said.
