COLOMBO (News 1st); Defence Secretary Gen. (Rtd.) Kamal Gunaratne confirmed that Former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa was temporarily moved to the Trincomalee Navy Dockyard.
Kamal Gunaratne said it is important to protect every single life in the country, and after it was determined that it was not suitable for Mahinda Rajapaksa to remain at Temple Trees, the necessary decision was made.
“He will not live there forever. After the situation returns to normal, he will be relocated to a residence or location of his choice,” he said.
“He is a former President and is entitled to adequate security,” said the Defence Secretary.
He also said there is no intention to bring in any foreign forces to Sri Lanka.
He said the former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will be protected as long as he lives, as every former president is entitled to security and protection.
