We should overcome this challenge with unity and better understanding: President

COLOMBO (News 1st); President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has issued a message on the occasion of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, stating that Sri Lanka is facing the biggest challenge in its history in the face of the current economic and global crisis.

The President stated that all Sri Lankans must overcome it with unity and understanding.

The congratulatory message issued by the President states that although  there are many difficulties faced by the people in the face of the challenges, and that the Government is taking steps to safeguard the lives of the people from the prevailing chaotic situation.

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa also issued a message of congratulations on the occasion of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, emphasizing that Sri Lankans should all work together as a nation to overcome the difficult times.

The Prime Minister stated that the Government was already implementing future plans to alleviate the suffering of all during these challenging times.

The Leader of Opposition, Sajith Premadasa points out that the country which used to be a self-sufficient economy has now become a paradise of tears and families have lost the opportunity to celebrate the New Year in peace and consolation.

The Leader of the Opposition emphasizes that instead of telling the people who have made sacrifices to do so again, it is imperative that the rulers take action at this time.
