COLOMBO (News 1st); The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has asked the Ministry of Defense to provide a written statement on the imposition of the state of emergency without proper consideration of reasons which pose a threat to national security.
The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka stated that it had issued the relevant instructions after summoning officials from the Ministry of Defense.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission states that a special investigation has been launched to ascertain whether human rights were violated during the protest in Mirihana.
The commission said the IGP had also launched an investigation into the incident.
However, the HRCSL emphasized that the report would be rejected if it is established that the investigation was not conducted independently.
Meanwhile, the HRCSL stated that an investigation has been launched into a video portraying a senior police officer assaulting a person during a protest in Anuradhapura recently.
