COLOMBO (News 1st); The Government's contradicting policies have caused for confusion to be created in the country, says SJB Parliamentarian Rauff Hakeem.

Speaking at the Parliament today (10), the Parliamentarian pointed out that a confusion was created in the market when the rupee was allowed to float against the dollar, and then the statements of a limit, which all came out confusing and did not achieve the result of expected stability of the rupee against the dollar rate.

Moreover, MP Hakeem mentioned that the statements by State Minister Shehan Semasinghe and Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena proved to be contradictory as well, when the two officials stated that two rates will be given for expat earnings and incentives; the Minister got the rate of Rs. 38 approved from the Cabinet, however State Minister Shehan Semasinghe stated that Rs. 20 will be granted for the expat earnings.

"The entire financial market gets confused due to the disputes between the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and the Finance Minister to score brownie points over the economy of this country," he stated.

Speaking further, Hakeem said that although the Ministers accepted that the Government needs to go to the IMF, economic experts such as the CBSL Governor did not accept this step, therefore he should be responsible for the situation that the country is in today.

Therefore, accept that you are at fault without attempting to drag this country to its doom, the MP added.
