COLOMBO (News 1st); Anyone would eventually get turned away when they repeatedly ask for aid, says National People's Power Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Expressing his views while participating in the Badulla District Convention of the NPP today (27), Dissanayake emphasized that the primary role of a Government is to make the life of the people of the country prosperous and to strengthen the economy of the country.

Pointing out that the sovereignty of a country cannot be protected without strengthening the economy of that country, Dissanayake said that the national resources of the country too cannot be protected without strengthening the country's economy.

" What has happened to the Government today? they are begging for 200 million from Australia to import milk powder, asking Bangladesh for Rs. 250 million to purchase rice, visiting and asking Pakistan for Rs. 200 million to bring cement and iron, and repeatedly visit India to ask for 1,000 million to import dhal, salt and oil," he said.

Citing reports of recurring visits of Finance Minister being stopped, Dissanayake said that even when a beggar keeps on asking for loans and aid repeatedly, they get refused eventually.

"So can we assure the sovereignty of a country? How is the security of the country assured?" he demanded.

Moreover, Dissanayake stated that the current Government is one which does not listen to the grievances of their citizens when there is a great deal of controversy over issues that have arisen in many fields.
