COLOMBO (News 1st); The Minister of Environment, Mahinda Amaraweera remarked that if he was the Minister in charge of Power, the first step he would take is to implement a proper mechanism to supply uninterrupted power supply to the country.
Speaking at an event held in Hambantota on Sunday (20), the Minister said that one of the major reasons Sri Lanka is facing this crisis is because the Government did not build any new powerplants in the recent past.
Emphasizing that the Government should have a long term plan, the Minister said that they should be planning ahead instead of blindly facing daily problems.
He also stated that one cannot just blame the minister, as the authorities are also responsible for this calamity.
It is a major issue that some authorities are against using renewable energy to produce power, Minister Amaraweera said, adding that this puts the country at a major disadvantage.
