AKD exposes Government's sell-off shopping list

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) on Wednesday (19) staged a protest urging the Government to reverse the Trincomalee Oil Tank Farm deal.

The protesters, who converged at the Technical junction then proceeded towards the Fort Railway Station, which also resulted in heavy traffic around the area.

According to the organizers, an unidentified group had hurled stones at the protestors as well.

Meanwhile, speaking at the protest, JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake alleged that attempts are being made to sell off Sri Lanka's natural resources and assets of the energy sector, while employees of the CEB and people who oppose these moves are doing their utmost to stop it from happening.

Emphasizing that the JVP too will take every possible action to end this, the JVP Leader stated that the West Container Terminal of the Colombo Port was sold off to India's Adani Group, while plans are afoot to sell 13 acres of the most valuable plot of land within the Colombo Port to a Chinese corporation.

Moreover, he stated that the Government is also planning to sell the York Building, Gaffoor Building, General Post Office building, the building housing the Foreign Ministry, Grand Oriental Hotel, The Hilton, Air Force camp and grounds in Slave Island.

Furthermore, he stated that plans are underway to sell off 42 acres of land in Borella where the Prison is situated and relocate the prison to Milleniya in Horana, and four acres in Marine Drive will also be sold to a Chinese company.
