Farmers to be compensated for damaged crops in January

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board states that compensation will be paid to farmers whose crops were damaged during the 2020/21 Maha season before the end of January.

Its Chairman, Attorney-at-Law Premachandra Epa stated that accordingly, 150,000 farmers would be compensated.

The amount allocated for compensating farmers is Rs. 1,500 million, and Rs. 40,000 compensation per acre will be paid to them.

Moreover, paddy, potato, chilli and big onion cultivation farmers will also be compensated.

The Chairman of the Agriculture and Agrarian Insurance Board stated that this compensation will also be paid for crops that have been paid for and insured.

Compensation for plantations will be credited to the relevant farmers' bank accounts.
