President leaves for the US to attend UN General Assembly

COLOMBO (News 1st); President Gotabaya Rajapaksa left for the United States of America early on Saturday (18) to attend the 76th United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The President's Media Division said this is the first time the President is leaving the country to attend an overseas forum and the first time he would be addressing the UN General Assembly.

President Rajapaksa is scheduled to address the General Assembly on the 22nd of September, while several meetings with other world leaders are to take place on the sidelines of the event.

Foreign Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris, Principal Advisor to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Foreign Secretary Admiral Prof. Jayanath Colombage will accompany the President during the visit.
