COLOMBO (News 1st); Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has called on the government to provide immediate solutions to prevent farmers from moving away from agriculture and to address the deteriorating living standards of farmers.

A statement issued by the Leader of the Opposition states that the farmers are preparing for the harvesting season with great disappointment in the face of the current situation.

The government has not been able to understand the problems of the farmer community, he said adding that this is not a positive intervention on behalf of farmers.

The Leader of the Opposition further points out that although many countries in the world that are struggling with the pandemic have given priority to health and food security, the Sri Lankan government has ignored both.
