Opposition mounts against KDU bill

COLOMBO (News1st): The People's Movement against the Militarization of Education convened a media briefing today. They said that they would not allow the KDU bill to be passed even with amendments. "Differentiate civil and military education. That is because civil education cannot be brought under the defence ministry," Prof. Prabhath Jayasinghe of the Federation of University Teachers Associations said. Wasantha Mudalige, the Convener of the Inter University Students Federation, said that all factions in the country are opposing the bill. "Therefore, the bill must be withdrawn immediately. We will continue our struggle until then," he noted.
