COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Director General of Health Services on Tuesday (13) confirmed that 24 people infected with the Delta COVID variant were detected in Sri Lanka so far.
‘Initially, 14 patients were detected, and thereafter 10 others were detected,’ he told News 1st.
Dr. Asela Gunawardena pointed out that it is essential for the general public to continue following the health guidelines in order to protect themselves from the coronavirus.
The University of Sri Jayawardenapura said it commenced another study on the spread of the Delta COVID variant in Sri Lanka.
Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, the Director of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura said tests will be carried out on 96 samples obtained from COVID-19 patients.
These samples were obtained from across the country at random, he said.
Dr. Jeewandara said the results of the tests will most likely be available in another week.
