COLOMBO (News 1st); COVID-19 vaccines pose no harm to lactating women, said Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, the Chief Consultant Physician at the Infectious Disease Institute on Wednesday (19).
"There is absolutely no need to stop breast-feeding a child before and after obtaining vaccine," he stressed.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Wijewickrama said approval to provide the vaccine to expectant mothers is very likely in the near future as most countries have recommended for the vaccine to be administered to expectant mothers.
Professor Neelika Malavige, Head of the Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine, University of Sri Jayewardenepura also stressed the four vaccines approved in Sri Lanka pose no threat to lactating women.
