COLOMBO (News 1st); The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka has requested the Inspector General of Police to submit a comprehensive inquiry report on the deaths of Dharmakeerthi Tharaka Perera alias ‘Kosgoda Tharaka’ and Nambulage Dinith Melan alias ‘Uru Juwa’, before the 30th of May 2021.
HRCSL in a statement stressed it is the responsibility of Sri Lanka Police to ensure the security of the suspects who are held in the custody of the police.
“This is highlighted in the orders issued by Sri Lanka Police and the verdicts delivered by the courts,” it added.
HRCSL stated that the recent deaths have raised serious concerns over the rule of law in Sri Lanka and said it called for the report to commence investigations on complaints received.
