COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Health Ministry had decided to import 1000 jumbo oxygen cylinders for COVID-19 patients in the country.
A source from the Health Ministry said a request was made to the Medical Supplies Division to import the oxygen cylinders, adding that discussions took place with multiple countries including Singapore for the procurement which is to cost Rs. 300 million.
Sri Lanka has also shown interest in importing 2000 Oxygen Concentrators and several other medical equipment required to provide treatment for COVID-19 patients.
The Health Ministry said an Oxygen Concentrator costs around Rs. 200,000/- and 2000 units will reach the island within two weeks.
The Health Ministry also added that 17% of Sri Lankan COVID-19 patients require oxygen for treatment, and a source said around 75 COVID-19 patients are receiving treatment at ICUs across the island.
