Colombo (News 1st); Canada’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka David McKinnon tweeted asking if he was under surveillance after at least two newspapers published details of visitors to Canada House in Colombo.
The Canadian diplomat was concerned that private meetings held at Canada House got media coverage when there were no media outside the residence at the time.
Further, local newspapers had also reported about meetings the Canadian Diplomat had with British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Sarah Hulton and South Korean Ambassador Woonjin Jeong.
Both the UK and South Korea are member states of the United Nations Human Rights Council.
When contacted by News 1st, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana stressed members from the diplomatic community are not under surveillance.
The Deputy Police Chief dismissed reports claiming the Canadian High Commissioner was placed under surveillance in Sri Lanka.
