(CCTV) Traveling bag with body inside reached Colombo from Hanwella

COLOMBO (News 1st): The magisterial inquiry was conducted with regard to the decapitated body of a woman discovered in Colombo on Monday (Mar. 01), Sri Lanka Police said on Tuesday (Mar. 02). A headless female body was discovered inside a large travelling bag left unattended at Gas Works Junction in Dam Street, Colombo on Monday (01). Whilst referring to several video footage released via media, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana urged the public to assist in identifying the perpetrator and the victim. "If you have any information about this perpetrator, kindly contact OIC of Dam Street via 071 859 1557. In addition to that, you can also contact the Colombo Emergency Centre via 011 2 433 333. If you have information about this perpetrator or a missing woman, kindly provide such information to the mentioned numbers," the Deputy Police Chief stressed. The investigations into the incident was launched by Dam Street Police. "Upon conducting the magisterial inquiry, the remains have been moved to the Colombo Police Mortuary for the post-mortem examination based on court orders. The post-mortem examination will be conducted today (02), upon confirmation of the identity." Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st. According to DIG Ajith Rohana, the Dam Street Police have recorded statements from various people and information has come to light that the individual who transported the bag to Colombo had travelled via a bus that left Hanwella at 11:30 am and reached Colombo at 1:00 pm, "The bus was taken into police custody and statements were recorded from the driver and the conductor of the bus, who confirmed that the suspect boarded the bus at the Hanwella Bus stand, prior to the journey," Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana further added.
