Colombo (News 1st) : With the gradual decline in hydropower generation, there are signs of problems with uninterrupted power supply. Due to the dry weather 74% of the electricity generation will have to be generated from coal and diesel thermal power plants, the Ministry of Power and Energy said. These days the total power generation is about 38.46 gigawatt-hours. Due to the dry weather, the hydropower generation has dropped to 23.1%. Accordingly, 74.92% of the total power supply to the main power grid is currently generated by diesel and coal thermal power plants. All steps have been taken to provide electricity without any cuts, the Ceylon Electricity Board said.
