COLOMBO (News 1st); Organized crime gang member Sobanahandi Sanath de Silva, alias Karandeniye Raju, has been granted permission to be detained for 72 hours for questioning.
Karandeniye Raju, who was arrested by security forces in India, was brought to the island last night.
He was arrested by Indian security forces while staying in New Delhi after arriving in India from Dubai.
This followed a request made by the Criminal Investigation Department to Interpol.
He is the brother of organized crime gang leader Karandeniye Sudda.
Fifteen warrants, 26 overseas travel bans, and a red notice have been issued against Karandeniye Raju by several courts in the country.
Police stated that he is facing charges over several serious crimes, including murder and arms trafficking.
These include multiple crimes reported from the Mitiyagoda, Karandeniya, Elpitiya, and Galle areas.
