COLOMBO (News 1st): A staggering total of 247 Dengue patients were reported in the 1st nine days of 2021, the Epidemiology Unit at the Ministry of Health said.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, the majority of 146 cases are from the Batticaloa district; 30 cases are from Colombo, and 19 are from the Kandy district.
“Dengue Eradication Programmes will be carried out at schools both today and tomorrow, prior to schools being re-opened on Monday (Jan. 11) for the 1st term in the new year, Dr. Aruna Jayasekara, the Director at the National Dengue Eradication Unit told News 1st on Saturday (Jan. 09).
Dr. Jayasekara said, “The National Dengue Eradication Unit has issued the necessary instructions in this regard, adding fumigation procedures will also take place at school premises during the weekend.”
