MANHUNT FOR HIT-&-RUN SUSPECT: POLICE

COLOMBO (News 1st): A 62-year-old woman in the Welimanana area of the Mathugama Police jurisdiction, was murdered on Thursday night (Jan. 07) after being run over by a car, Sri Lanka Police said on Friday (Jan. 08). Sri Lanka Police are requesting public assistance to apprehend the suspect, owner of vehicle CBI-6295, who is currently on the run. "The police are seeking the support of the general public to trace the vehicle. The vehicle number is CBI-6295, a white car. If you have any information about this vehicle, kindly contact the Headquarter Inspector Mathugama via 071 859 1701," DIG Ajith Rohana urged. According to Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana, the victim was murdered in this manner over a personal dispute with regard to property. "The reason for the murder is a private dispute between the deceased victim and the suspect. The deceased woman's 37-year-old son has passed away yesterday afternoon (07). At the time the body of the son was being brought to the residence, the suspect and the deceased woman had an argument over a property. Thereafter, the 62-year-old woman was murdered by the suspect," the Deputy Police Chief elaborated. The magisterial inquest with regard to the murder will be conducted today (Jan. 08), while Mathugama Police are conducting further investigations.
