Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka will order the COVID-19 vaccine from the relevant manufacturers when required, said Minister Vasudeva Nanayakkara in Parliament on Friday (20).
He said the orders will be placed when Sri Lanka requires one, and the government will source the funds as well.
“Sri Lanka does not need the vaccine right now. America needs it at this moment,” he said.
He made these comments in response to a statement made by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa who questioned if the Sri Lankan government had approached COVID-19 vaccine manufacturers across the world.
Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka reprimanded the Minister for saying the vaccine is not necessary for Sri Lanka adding it is mandatory to have the vaccine in the UK.
“Go back to the Army, if you want to command people,” Vasudeva Nanayakkara to the Former Army Commander adding Fonseka cannot speak whenever he wishes in Parliament.
