No curfew during weekend, says Army Commander

Colombo (News 1st); Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva urged those who show symptoms of the coronavirus to step forward for immediate treatment, without concealing the fact from authorities.

The Army Commander said curfew will not be imposed for any area in Sri Lanka during the weekend, adding certain areas made be placed on lock-down if the need arises.

Quoting the Sri Lankan Health Secretary, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said only 05 people have died of the COVID-19 infection alone, while the rest died of various chronic diseases exacerbated by the COVID-19 infection.

He reiterated the importance of those with COVID-19 symptoms seeking immediate medical attention, rather than experiencing an untimely death.

The Army Commander said even during a lock-down, in the event of an emergency an ambulance will be made available to move a COVID-19 patient to the hospital for immediate treatment.

Further, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva appealed to the general public to assist the efforts made to control the spread of COVID-19.
