COLOMBO (News 1st): The 1st meeting of the newly appointed cabinet of ministers will be held today (Aug 19), at the Presidential Secretariat.

The cabinet of ministers will convene at 10:00 am on Wednesday (Aug 19), under the patronage of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Keheliya Rambukwella, the Minister of Mass Media, said on Wednesday (Aug 19).

“The main focus of the meeting will be on the budget or a Supplementary Estimate. There is still time to present the budget in parliament, as it is usually taken up for discussion either in September or November,” Minister Rambukwella said.

However, the Minister went onto note that under the constitution, the President holds monetary authority for three months since a new parliament convenes.

Thereby, the Minister noted, matters concerning the submission of an appropriation bill, the constitution, and the 19th Amendment, will be discussed during the cabinet meeting today.
