COLOMBO (News 1st): The University Grants Commission has taken measures to immediately appoint Vice-Chancellors to seven universities, where the position remains vacant, according to higher-education authorities.
“Steps were taken to call for applications from suitable candidates and proceed to interviews, following a round of selections,” Prof. Janitha Liyanage – the Vice-Chairperson of the UGC said on Friday (July 10).
However, Prof. Liyanage noted, as it is illegal to conduct interviews or recruitment during these days in compliance with the election law, the interviews will take place following the 2020 Parliamentary election.
According to Prof. Liyanage, the position of Vice-Chancellor remains vacant at the Universities of Sri Jayawardenepura, Jaffna, Kelaniya, Uva Wellassa, Sabaragamuwa, Wayamba and the University of the Visual & Performing Arts.
“Suitable senior administrators have been appointed to overlook the respective positions until the positions are filled,” Prof. Janitha Liyanage further noted.
