Chief Prelates urge theros' to protect Buddhism ; uphold teachings of Lord Buddha

COLOMBO (News1st): The Chief Prelates of the three main sects have called on Buddhist theros to work for the protection of the religion, and to uphold the teachings of Lord Buddha. Based on what has been seen in the media recently, some Theros are engaging in activities that are not in accordance with the conduct of a monk, the chief prelates said in a statement. They added that it is best to abstain from unnecessary activities during troubled times as advised by Lord Buddha. The Theros must always work towards the welfare and social security of the people, the statement read. It added that it is best for Theros to explain to the donors that abstinence from alcohol and drugs leads to a healthy life.
