COLOMBO (News 1st): Island-wide raids will be carried out to apprehend motorists who drive under the influence, said Sri Lanka Police on Wednesday (June 16).
“Raids conducted to arrest those who drive under the influence was disrupted during the period, quarantine curfew was imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Indika Hapugoda, in-charge of the Motor Traffic Division.
According to SSP Hapugoda, 45,750 cases were filed over driving under the influence in the period from 05th July 2019 to 15th June 2020.
SSP Hapugoda further said fines were charged from every single case.
