Colombo (News 1st); Following a News 1st expose’, the Minister of Sports instructed Sri Lanka Cricket to ensure the documents stored at the Keththarama Grounds, which may be required for a probe on SLC, are not destroyed.
The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs in a statement today said, the instructions were given following a report aired on the Prime Time News Bulletin on Sirasa TV on the 11th of June.
The statement from the Ministry with regard to a report titled “Sri Lanka Cricket on a Mission to Conceal Information” said the attention of the Sports Minister was drawn towards a news report which cited an SLC Ex-Co decision to destroy old documents of SLC, using provisions of the Right to Information Act.
The statement said if there are documents classified as important for any investigation, it is an offense to destroy those documents.
The Ministry said SLC was instructed to ensure documents that need to be preserved are not destroyed under any circumstance.
The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs noted the Minister personally thanks Sirasa TV for its exceptional reporting.
