Sri Lanka wins Tilbury House Debating Championship

Sri Lanka Team-A emerged champions in the Tilbury House Debating Championship 2020, after a 4 to 3 split decision win in the Grand Final against Wales at an international debate competition organized by Germany. The debating tournament was organized by the University of Cologne in Germany, and teams from around the world competed in it. Countries participating in the debates included Ireland,Whales, Netherlands, Germany, Slovenia, Romania, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh Two teams from Sri Lanka participated in the competition. Both Sri Lankan teams made it to the semi-finals and were pitted against each other in the penultimate round. Sri Lanka Team A qualified for the finals and went on to emerge as the winners of the tournament. Shalem Sumanthiran was crowned the best speaker of the tournament and Janul De Silva was ranked the 8th best speaker. The Sri Lanka teams were coached by Kithmina Hewage.
