COLOMBO (News1st): Sri Lanka conducted its first ever court session via video conferencing amidst restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus.

The session had taken place involving the Hultsdorf Magistrate’s Court, from which cases were moved to another court after coronavirus patients were reported from the area.

“Inmates were produced before court from the technology unit of the Welikada prison instead of being brought to court,” the justice ministry said in a statement.

Hearings were conducted using a special software, the statement added.

Arrangements are being made to implement this facility across the country, according to the ministry.

Authorities have rolled out a raft of regulations including social distancing measures as the south asian island battles the disease.
