Colombo (News 1st); The National Elections Commission said the program to provide the 5000 rupee allowance for families with no means of income should not be abused in any way to promote political parties or candidates.

Further, the NEC requested for the removal of local politicians from all programs related to the provision of the 5000 rupee allowance.

In the letter to the President’s Secretary and several other top government officials, the National Elections Commission said it received a large number of complaints citing the program to provide the 5000 rupee allowance is being used to promote political parties in Government.
