COLOMBO (News1st): Former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya dismissed rumours that he would reconvene the parliament and said he will not create another constitutional crisis. ''Sri Lanka does not need another constitutional crisis amid the prevailing Covid19 pandemic, and the executive must take all efforts to avert a crisis,'' The Former Speaker said in a tweet. He concluded his tweet saying he is bound to uphold the judiciary's decision in a dispute. Recently, the President's office turned down a request made by the National Election Commission to seek a Supreme Court Determination on the date of the election, as a delayed poll could result in a constitutional impasse. Former MP M. A. Sumanthiran PC participating in a News1st program said the gazette issued by the President to dissolve parliament and fix the election for April25, stands invalid as the NEC has rescheduled the election to the 20th of June.
