COLOMBO (News1st): Former parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake who was arrested late Monday for obstructing the duties of police officers has been remanded until April 20. Ramanayake was arrested along with his physiotherapist, and were produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate's Court today, the Police said in a statement. His physiotherapist had been released on a surety bail of Rs 100,000. A video circulating on social media, said to have been filmed by a police officer, showed the former lawmaker arguing with police officers who prevented his physiotherapist, an official at the sports ministry, from entering his housing complex in Madiwela. Ramanayaka, who claimed that his physiotherapist had brought vegetables and rice in his car, denied any wrongdoing at the time of his arrest.
