Ravi K and other bond suspects appear in Court

Seven suspects in the Central Bank Treasury Bond Scam, including Ravi Karunanayke, with warrants against them, appeared in the presence of Fort Magistrate, Ranga Dissanayake, following an order issued by the Court of Appeal, this morning. Those who appeared in court are: Ravi Karunanayake, Arjun Aloysius, Geoffrey Joseph Aloysius, Kasun Palisena, Ranjan Hulugalle, Sangarappillai Pathumanapan and Indika Saman Kumara. Fort Magistrate, Ranga Dissanyake ordered documents proving their presence in court to be handed over to the suspects, he also pointed out, the magistrate, has no authority to issue orders regarding the suspects who were present in court on orders issued by the Court of Appeal. However, the 9th suspect of the case, Director of Perpetual Treasuries, Ajahn Punchihewa and Former Governor of the Central Bank, Arjuna Mehendran were not present in court today. A writ application filed by Ravi Karunanayake and three others filed with the court of appeal was called up for consideration this morning in the presence of a three-judge bench, comprising of Court of Appeal President M.D. Nawaz and Justices Shiran Gunaratne and Sobitha Rajakaruna. The petition will be called up again on the 17th of March for further consideration.
