22 university students remanded for violating court orders

Colombo (News 1st) - 22 students including the convener of Inter-University Students Union, Ven. Rathkarawwe Jinaratana Thero have been remanded till the 16th of this month. The students were arrested for engaging in a Satyagraha opposite the University Grants Commission and Ministry of Higher Education in violation of court orders. They were presented before the Colombo Chief Magistrate, Lanka Jayaratne today. Taking into account the facts presented by Senior DIG Attorney at Law, Ajith Rohana two student monks and 20 students were remanded for ignoring orders issued by the Colombo Chief Magistrate court on the 27th of February.  When the students were presented before Court on Sunday (March 1), they were remanded till today (March 2). The order to remanded the students once again till the 16th was issued when they were produced before the court once again today (March 2).
