Colombo (News 1st): The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau has taken measures to conduct an immediate survey on the status of the sand deposits along the Kelani River. The move comes after the President claimed there was a risk of the river over-flowing during the raining season due to the high volume of sand deposits recorded after sand extraction permits were suspended.
A report on the survey by the Geological Survey & Mines Bureau will be handed over to the President in due course. Thereafter, attention would be drawn towards the identified areas in which sand extraction should take place along the Kelani River.
