Ministry of Agriculture to be moved to Govijana Mandiraya

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Irrigation and Rural Industries states that the Ministry of Agriculture which is currently operated in a private building in Rajagiriya will be re-established at the Govijana Mandiraya in Battaramulla on the 31st of this month. Secretary to the Ministry, Neil Bandara Hapuhinna said the shifting process has already begun. The Secretary added that the Ministry of Agriculture had to spend over a monthly rent of Rs.24mn for the current building. The move to the Govijana Mandiraya will save about Rs.3mn in expenses to the government. However, the Ministry stated as per the lease conditions the building at Rajagiriya cannot be released until April next year. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture stated that the Ministry of Rural Affairs which was housed in a private building in Kollupitiya for a lease of Rs 9.6mn per month has been shifted to the first floor of the Govijana Mandiraya.
