Three arrested with drugs worth over Rs. 2.5 bn

COLOMBO (News 1st):- Three suspects have been arrested with over a kilogram of heroin following a raid conducted in Dematagoda. The police said that 1.634 kg of heroin, 403g of ICE and 574g of Kerala ganja were among the items seized. The total value of the seized items exceeds Rs. 2.5 billion. The arrested suspects aged 42, 26 and 24 are residents of Demtagoda. The suspects are due to be produced before the Maligakanda Magistrates Court tomorrow (January 13). The police also state that a week-long detention order will also be obtained. An extensive police operation has commenced to track down the chief suspect connected to the drug ring. The drug raid was carried out through the joint efforts of the Colombo Central Crime Prevention Unit and the Police Narcotics Bureau this morning (January 12).
