Colombo (News 1st): Former Western Province Councilor Susil Kindelpitiya and three others were acquitted and released from the case filed against them for the possession of an unlicensed pistol. The verdict was delivered by Colombo Additional Magistrate Kanchana Neranjana de Silva today (January 8). Susil Kidelpitiya was arrested on the 2nd of April 2010 over charges that he was in possession of an unlicensed firearm. President's Counsel Shanaka Ranasinghe and Attorney-at-law Nisanda Gamage from Julius & Creasy represented Susil Kidelpitiya in Court. President's Counsel Shanaka Ranasinghe pointed out that the prosecution had failed to prove that proper procedure was followed when the firearm was produced in court. The attorney further pointed out other discrepancies in the case. The Additional Magistrate after considering all the submissions acquitted and released the suspects from all charges. Speaking to the media Susil Kindelpitiya noted:
"I knew that I will get justice from the judiciary. I always believed in courts. This was political revenge. It was a part of a political program. This is something that was done for the needs of the few corrupt policemen and politicians. That is very clear. When I came out after spending 70 days in remand custody I said that they will be punished by nature. Some of them are suffering these consequences. The devil still exists in many shapes and forms. But my struggle for social justice still remains the same."
