Colombo (News 1st): The Disaster Management Centre says the water level of the Mahaweli River is reaching Minor Flood Level from Werangatota and Manampitiya. Pradeep Kodippilli, the Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Centre said the people living on the banks of the river in those respective areas must remain vigilant.
He went on to note, the water level of the Kala Oya in Anurdharapura had increased rapidly adding people from Thalawa, Thanbuttegama, Galnewa and other surrounding areas were evacuated.
Pradeep Kodippilli said vehicular movement along the Udu-Dumbara – Meemure Road and the Polonnaruwa – Somawathiya Road have been hampered due to collapsing earth embankments and floods at several locations.
