Police seize posters causing disrepute to a Presidential Candidate

Colombo (News 1st): Several incidents of presidential election laws being violated, have been reported. Police seized a stock of posters that caused disrepute towards a presidential candidate. The investigation was launched following a complaint lodged by the Kandy district coordinator of the Jathika Hela Urumaya, Thushara Swarnathilaka, claiming that the posters were being distributed through a private courier service in Kandy. The stock of posters was seized when the police inspected the residence of a Kandy municipal councillor, after questioning the courier service. Speaking to the media Thushara Swarnathilake noted that according to the information he has received, these posters have been distributed to 3 places in 3 separate districts through that agency. He added that they have received information that these posters have been distributed through all outlets of this private courier service, situated across the island. He said according to the information they possess, they have planned to distribute these posters tonight or tomorrow night. One person who had been distributing pamphlets door to door, promoting a certain Presidential Candidate has been arrested in Weerakodiyana, Dummalasuriya. Police have seized 155 pamphlets which were in the suspect's possession. The Police have also discovered 30 envelopes and a motorbike. The arrested suspect is a 27-year-old resident of Katuhenawatta, Weerakodiyana.
