Subsidies for vegetable and fruit farmers-Sajith Premadasa

COLOMBO(News 1st) - The presidential candidate of the New Democratic Front Sajith Premadasa attended a rally organized in the Balangoda town today (October 14). Sajith Premadasa was warmly welcomed by the supporters who attended the rally. Sri Lanka Freedom Party councillor Suranga Manik pledged his support to Sajith Premadasa today (October 14). Minister Sajith Premadasa noted that decisions will be taken according to the opinion of the general public following November 17th. He requested the public not to interpret him as a politician who comes with false promises during the elections season. He added that he would take the responsibility of developing the Ratnapura district to help everyone including those who are engaged in the gem, tea and rubber industries. Meanwhile, the Presidential candidate of the New Democratic Front Sajith Premadasa met the business community in the Badulla District at Bandarawela. Question: Because of heavy traffic congestion tourists and customers cannot park their vehicles and come to our places of business. Sajith Premadasa requested them to place their faith in him and assured that he himself had taken notes of this requirement. He went on to note that a week after assuming the office of the president he would tend to this matter. Question: I respectfully ask that we are given a price higher than Rs 50 for paddy. Sajith Premadasa responded that he intends to place an initial control price of Rs 50 for paddy as soon as he assumes the president's office. He added that in addition to the farmer, the consumer would be protected as well and in order to do that, subsidies would be given to the farmers. Minister went on to note that he intends to provide the same subsidies received by the paddy farmers to those who grow vegetables and fruits as well.
