COLOMBO (News 1st) - Parliamentarian, Shantha Kumara was remanded till the 17th of October following his arrest for violating bail conditions. He was arrested for conducting an illegal meeting in 2004 and possessing a firearm. In 2011 the Magistrate of Chillaw granted him bail on the condition he presents himself to the Police every Sunday. In 2013 the condition was made lenient ordering him to present himself to the Police on the last Sunday of every month. When the court reviewed the police report on his bail, it was clear he had not complied with the conditions and the Magistrate thus revoked his bail, ordering him to be taken into custody and subsequently placed in remand.
