Colombo (News 1st): During a meeting with Senior Police Officers today (September 27) President Maithripala Sirisena noted that as the police is an institution that comes under his purview they have to give the required support to the elections commission to conduct a fair and unbiased election. He noted that he expects the police to act in a manner where no party can accuse the police of being biased to anyone. Therefore, he said all the senior police officers including the IGP should make the necessary arrangements to conduct the election activities smoothly.
These monthly meetings are being held under the program launched by the president to provide more effective service through the police by solving their long term issues. Discussions focused on the allocation of funds for a program to test the health standards of officers.
Discussions were also held on assigning doctors to police hospitals, salary anomalies and issues surrounding grading of police officers.
Meanwhile, modern equipment worth Rs 750 million to detect drugs and explosives were donated to Sri Lanka by China.
