COLOMBO (News 1st):- The JVP led National Peoples Power movement has nominated JVP Leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake as their Presidential candidate. Dissanayake’s candidacy was announced during the NPP’s rally currently underway at the Galle Face Green.

The event named “Peraliye Maha Raliya” is being held under the theme let’s rise and unite.

The JVP is fielding a presidential candidate of their own after a lapse of 20 years. In 1999 Nandana Gunathilake of the JVP contested the presidential polls and was placed third in the election.

The JVP pledged their support to Mahinda Rajapaksa in 2005, to the common candidate Sarath Fonseka in 2010 and in the year 2015 did not field a presidential candidate but carried out a campaign against corruption.

The JVP leader speaking at the event told the people gathered that he will not betray the confidence placed in him. He further said that the political power of this country has fallen into the grasp of corruption, bribery, and fraud and that this situation should be changed.

He assures the people that an honest political system will be created in the country and that secondly the economy of the country that has suffered damage will be restored. Anura Dissanayake says that they will create a new economic policy that will give priority to the human resources and allow its benefits to flow down to the general public.

He added that they will work towards bringing a better economy for the working class of the country.
