COLOMBO (News 1st) – A group of workers employed at the Sevanagala Sugar Factory staged a demonstration this morning(May 27) against the proposal made by Minister Lakshman Kiriella to privatize the factory.
The Sri Lanka Nidahas Sevaka Sangamaya, The Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya, The Progressive Workers Union and the Inter Company Employees Union joined the demonstration to show their objection against minister’s proposal.
The group was seen setting fire to tyres close to the access roads leading to the sugar factory and commenced a “Satyagraha campaign” at a make-shift stage opposite the factory.
