DNA tests confirm identities of 04/21 bombers

Colombo (News 1st): DNA tests have confirmed the identities of all suicide bombers responsible for the 04/21 terror attacks. The tests have confirmed one of the suicide bombers responsible for the attacks on the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo was Mohammed Zahran. Accordingly, samples obtained from his wife and daughter of Mohammed Zahran, who were injured in the explosions inside a house in Saindamaruthu and hospitalized, were used for the DNA testing. Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekera said the second suicide bomber responsible for the attack on the Shangri-La Hotel and the suicide bomber responsible for the attack on the Cinnamon Grand in Colombo were Mohamed Ibrahim Ilham Ahamed and Mohamed Ibrahim Inshaf Ahamed. He said the Government Analyst confirmed the DNA of the suicide bombers matched with the DNA sample of their father.

  • The DNA of Alahudeen Ahamed Muaath the suicide bomber responsible for the attack on the Kochchikade Church in Colombo was a match to the samples obtained from his parents.
  • The DNA of Abdul Latif Jameel Mohammed the suicide bomber responsible for the explosion at the Tropic Inn in Dehiwala was a match to samples obtained from his wife and children.
  • The DNA of Mohamed Nazar Mohammed Azath the suicide bomber responsible for the attack on the Batticaloa Church was a match to the samples obtained from his mother.
  • The DNA of Mohammed Azam Mohammed Mubarak the suicide bomber responsible for the attack on the Kingsbury Hotel was a match to the samples obtained from his wife and children.
  • The DNA of Mohamed Fathima Jiffrey responsible for the explosion at Dematagoda was a match to Mohamed Ibrahim Ilham Ahamed her husband.
In addition, the Government analysts confirmed the three children who died in the explosion were the children of Fathima Jiffrey and Mohamed Ibrahim Ilham Ahamed.
