COLOMBO (News 1st) - Following the speech made by the Minister of Finance on the proposed budget for the year, various comments were made by the members of the opposition parties. Opposition leader Mahinda Rajapaksa addressing parliament said that the whole budget is a burden on the people. With reference to a statement made by the finance minister, the opposition leader claimed that it is a lie to say that hundreds of people in the Hambantota district have no toilets. He added that before coming up with wrong statistics on the number of toilets required that they should obtain a proper count on the people living in the district. UPFA MP S. B. Dissanayake said that both the minister of finance and the Prime Minister are well aware that once they move to spend the money they allocated for various things that their time in office will be over and that all of it will only be limited actions. Meanwhile, the JVP announcing their stance claimed that they have decided to vote against the budget since it is simply an extension of the destructive economic journey. The leader of the Democratic Left Front Vasudeva Nanayakkara said that most of the relief presented through the budget are all targetting the date of the presidential elections.
