COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ceylon Electricity Board Employees' Union states that the one megawatt mobile generators imported to Sri Lanka through an Indian company, was procured violating the tender conditions. Secretary to the union, Ranjan Jayalal said although these generators were imported to the country with the intention of using them during emergency power failures across the country, the generators have been set up in a manner that makes them immobile. According to the secretary, the loss incurred through this transaction is twice the loss incurred from the Central Bank Treasury Bond Scam. Ranjan Jayalal added that this purchase was done for the benefit of several officials at the Ceylon Electricity Board and the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy. When the News 1st team inquired, the media spokesperson to the ministry, Sulakshana Jayawardena acknowledged that fifty mobile generators were imported to Sri Lanka. He denied the accusations and dared the accusers to seek justice at a court if they have solid evidence.
